Mental Wanderings

That soundtrack song that just makes you shiver

There are many movie and television composers who can work such magic into what you’re viewing. I become very emotional listening to some of the angelic vocalizations placed into certain scenes but there are many others which do not have a single voice in them which can sweep you off your very feet.

The orchestra or single instrument carries the emotion to such a level that you are there. You are within that scene, feeling that pain, triumph or shock for whatever is playing out there. You might tear up or feel your spirit rise. Music soundtracks in television and movies, when done right, are that one element which truly connects your eyes to your ears and to your very soul at times.

All I can say is thank you to everyone who has played or written anything which had brought out that level of feeling to me.

Mental Wanderings

Speed demon on the interstate

When I have to go onto the turnpike where the speed signs read 70, I will go 75 to 80 miles per hour because the speed signs say 70! Yet there will always be cars and trucks zooming by at what looks to be 90 miles per hour.

The other day I was in the left lane, going 80, keeping with the other cars around me when I see some others revving up to my bumper so I move on over to the right lane to let these speed demons go on their own merry way. You do you, speed demon, race away!

Later that day when speaking to a coworker, he states being one of those speed demons going 110 on the left lane and noticing it was my little silver car which changed lanes when he was zooming by. I proceeded to give him a hard time for going so far above the speed limit but if someone was going to get a ticket, it sure wouldn’t be me!

Stress Management

The stomach ache that just overlaps your entire world

I was offsite doing some work in a new project area. It was around 11am and in the middle of speaking to a coworker, this unsettling and hideous stomach ache kicked in so bad that my knees buckled a tiny bit.

Something in my lower intestines wanted out. Now.

I was a good walk away from the nearest ladies bathroom so I rapidly bid a goodbye to my coworker and began the hurried penguin shuffle out of the area – my entire lower body in lock down. Lucky for me, I was able to dash into an available stall and do the deed which was necessary to take care of the tummy pains.

This is not the first time I’ve gotten a hideous ache while being far from a lavatory… once I was going 50 miles per hour on Interstate 4 (I4) when a stunning cramp raced throughout what I think was my lower intestines. With nothing but racing cars and no exit sign for a few miles ahead of me, I clenched me teeth, eased over to the slower lane and prayed that it would subside till I could do something about it.

What a terrible experience it can be when ones body is suddenly on high alert. It’s as if your entire world shrinks down into that single pain or discomfort.

Food and Drink

Breakfast – I cannot live without it

Since my childhood, I have always eaten breakfast. Growing up it might be pancakes, cereal (usually Honeynut Cheerios with a sliced banana) or oatmeal with some bread slices slathered in butter. I never went hungry when going to school.

When I started working, it was the same – wake up early to eat something before heading into work. I work with two men who do not eat anything until around 9am or later… which is usually when I am having either a pre-lunch snack or a very early lunch (I wake up at 5am and eat breakfast by 530 so my stomach is starving by 9am… don’t judge me!)

On the weekends I will once in  blue, fast right through into lunch but it’s rare. Every once in a bit, weekend breakfast is when I go all out and spend extra time making some thick blueberry pancakes or some custardy french toast which I drizzle pure maple syrup atop. Ahh maple syrup, you come from trees and you’re such a blessing. Thank you maple tree sap.

The parting of the hair

With my hair, I tend to part it a certain way. I would say that around 97% of the time, I will automatically part it to the right. Whenever my hair gets cut, the stylist will look or ask which way I tend to let it fall. There is a small crest or wave near that area which helps my hair not fall flat like a pancake without baking powder and I’m grateful for that.

Once in a while I will try doing a middle part or letting it go to the opposite side and it can feel a bit odd like a piece of a puzzle that’s just not the exact fit. So eventually, I wind up going back to the familiar part.

There are plenty of folks who do not part their hair to any side simply because the length of their hair is short enough to not require it. Ah, what a simple thing to live with.
